Is Whisper more accurate than Otter AI?
We don't know of an independent test that runs both on the same audio, so we can't say which is more accurate. OpenAI's Whisper paper (Radford et al., 2022, arXiv:2212.04356) gives benchmark word error rates for Whisper large-v2. The word error rate is roughly the share of words wrong, so lower is better. Whisper large-v2 scored 4.0% on recorded talks (TED-LIUM) and 16.9% on meetings recorded with headset mics (AMI). It scored 36.4% when one distant mic picked up the whole meeting. Otter is not part of that paper. Those numbers show that meeting audio, above all from one distant mic, is much harder than a clean talk. The fair test is to run one of your own recordings through both.
