These products overlap on exactly one square: getting a transcript out of a YouTube video. Everywhere else they solve different problems.

• Anything on a locked-down machine. If you can't install a Chrome extension — work laptop, managed device, or you're simply on a phone — a web tool that needs nothing installed is the only option that works.

This sounds like a minor implementation detail. In daily use it is the biggest difference between the two tools.

A browser extension is the right architecture for meetings — it has to sit inside the call to hear it. But it means a Chrome install, permissions granted to a browser you're signed into, and a workflow that lives on the machine where you installed it. For a meeting tool, that's a fair trade.

For transcribing a video someone else published, it buys you nothing. There's no live audio to capture — the video already exists at a URL. So the extension is pure overhead: something to install, keep updated, and re-install on every device, in exchange for a job that a plain web page can do. Paste-a-link works identically on a work laptop with locked-down policies, on a phone, on a borrowed machine, and in any browser. Nothing to install and nothing to sign into is not a feature we built; it's just what's left when the job doesn't require a resident process.

An alternative page that only lists its own strengths is a sales page. The honest limits, so you don't waste your time:

• No live meeting transcription. Zoom, Meet, and Teams calls are outside what we do, in real time or otherwise. This is Tactiq's core competence and it stays theirs.
• No local file uploads. We work from public URLs. If your video is an MP4 on your desktop that was never posted, the workaround is uploading it to YouTube as unlisted and pasting that link — or using an upload-based transcriber instead.
• Public content only. Private, age-restricted, and sharing-disabled videos can't be fetched by any URL-based tool, ours included.
• No speech, no transcript. A video that's a trending sound over on-screen text has nothing to transcribe. Transcription reads audio; those words were typed, not spoken.

If any of those four is your actual use case, we're the wrong tool and you should use something else.
